Who owns or funds the Hormel Historic Home?

The Hormel Historic Home is an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.  We're proud to be one of the last remaining historic house museums in Minnesota that is still self-sustaining itself through tours, venue rentals, memberships, donations, and gift shop sales.

The Hormel Historic Home is not owned, managed, or operationally funded by Hormel Foods, Inc. or any county, city, historical society or The Hormel Foundation.

Our organization does receive restricted grant funding for part of our Education Mission's Autism Programming from both the United Way of Mower County and The Hormel Foundation for which we are grateful.

We're grateful to all our patrons, donors, and members.  By visiting or supporting our organization, you help continue the preservation and future of this historic site.

What year was the Hormel Historic Home built?

John Cook, Austin's third mayor, built the home in 1871.  Learn more about when the Hormel Family purchased and remodeled the home, and our time as a YWCA by visiting our History page on our website or visiting and taking the tour.

Do you offer research hours?

As our collection continues to grow, we plan to offer research opportunities in the future, but not at this time.

How can I donate something to your collection?

Contact us by phone or email to inquire about donating an object, photograph, document, printed matter, video recordings, or other archives specifically related to the Hormel Family, siblings, descendants, homes, or our Young Women's Christian Organization (YWCA) history.
Who are the members of your Board of Trustees?
Our current fiscal year Board of Trustees members include: Derek Hjelmen, Adam Houck, Liz Kellner, Katie Larson, Heather Nelson, Renee Wangen, and Elaine Williamson.

We are currently looking to add to our Board of Trustees, if you are a current supporter or volunteer of our organization and are interested in becoming a board member, reach out to our Executive Director, Cindy Meany, at [email protected] or 507-433-4243.
Besides preserving the home and history of George A. & Lillian Hormel's beloved home, what other areas does your mission support for the community?
Our mission is honoring and preserving the home and family legacy of George A. Hormel by celebrating, inspiring, and enriching the lives of everyone in our community.

As in the past, now in the present, and into the future, we focus on areas of Hospitality, Music, Education, and Community Service through meaningful programming and outreach.
